We’ve witnessed the first week of the final Grand Slam of the year, the U.S. Open.
With over 100 games already played, Flushing Meadows has been filled with shock wins, surprising exits and every other thing that comes with a Grand Slam event.
It’s Week 2 of the event. Things will only get tougher with each passing game.
The competition is about to get even stiffer as players jostle for a chance to feature in the final of all the categories, most especially the Men’s Singles and the Women’s Singles.
In the Men’s Singles category, the first round didn’t produce too many surprises. All the big guns made it through to the second round. All except Grigor Dimitrov who lost to unseeded Stan Wawrinka.
Andy Murray’s run was halted in the second round alongside Fognini too who lost to Millman. Gael Monfils was also one of the big names to suffer a shock defeat in this round as he lost to Kei Nishikori.
With the Round of 16 set to continue this new week, names like Alexander Zverev, Kyrgios and Wawrinka won’t be a part as they all suffered defeat in the third round.
With all these names gone, the stage is perfectly set for names like Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal, and Novak Djokovic.
Dominc Thiem and Kevin Anderson have met nine times, with the South African winning eight of those meetings. Djojovic will obviously be looking for his fifth win in his fifth meeting against unseeded Sousa.

Sloane Stephens, Naomi Osaka Madison Keys, Cibulková and Maria Sharapova are just some of the few names that have managed to stay alive in the competition so far.
Madison Keys will take on Cibulkova, a player she has faced and defeated four times. The numbers are the same for the amount of times Serena has faced and defeated Kanepi in recent times. The last time Sloane Stephens faced Mertens, it ended in a loss for the world No. 3.
The tourney is drawing to an end which means all things being equal, this week will feature heavyweight clashes between veteran tennis players.
