The first legs of the Champions League quarter-finals are done and teams have shown their intent. Manchester City, Chelsea, PSG & Real Madrid all recorded wins and have the advantage going into the 2nd leg. This competition has however showed us time after time that first leg wins can be deceptive. We have seen incredible comebacks so many times that we can be certain nobody is safely through to the semi-finals just yet.
The first set of return legs pits Chelsea against FC Porto. The blues have put themselves in a very good position following their 2-0 away win last week. They just need to avoid defeat and they’re through to the semis. FC Porto have a lot of work to do if they want to advance. They must score at least 3 goals against a Chelsea team that has kept the most clean sheets in the UCL this season.
The biggest tie of the round is PSG vs Bayern Munich. A repeat of last season’s final did not disappoint in the first leg. PSG have the advantage following their 3-2 win away from home. They however face arguably the best team in Europe and will have to be at their absolute best to see out the tie. Robert Lewandowski is back in Bayern training but is unlikely to be fit enough for the game.

The second of set of return legs sees Borussia Dortmund host Manchester City. City have a slender advantage following their 2-1 win at home. BVB will be encouraged by their first leg performance as they held City till the 90th minute. City’s loss to Leeds last weekend meanwhile shows they’re beatable afterall. Star striker Erling Haaland has been on a recent goal drought and will hope to break it tonight.
The last of the return legs is a Champions League classic as it pits 2 heavyweights against each other. Liverpool have a 3-1 deficit to overcome following their loss to Real Madrid last week. The reigning PL champions will have to better their performance as they were below par in Spain last week. Jurgen Klopp blamed the defeat on the Real Madrid stadium claiming it didn’t have the atmosphere of a real stadium. The statement makes the upcoming encounter even spicier as Liverpool have only scored 3 goals at home in 2021. Real Madrid’s El Clasico win last weekend came at a cost as they lost more players to injuries. They have now had more than 50 injuries this season alone and will be hoping to avoid more injuries against Liverpool.
