win big ligue 1

It’s that time of the year when different football leagues in Europe take a breather and let their players enjoy their Christmas. Of course this is some sort of taboo in the Premier League but leagues like the Spanish La Liga, Italian Serie A and co. will soon be off to pay Santa Claus a visit.

The German Bundesliga is already on a winter break and the French Ligue 1 is set to join them, after Game week 19’s round of games. After Wednesday’s action, the first half of the 2017/2018 Ligue 1 season will end and the second half will commence next year.

Falcao vs. Cavani

As we look forward to all of tonight’s action, two of the league’s most prolific strikers will be featuring for their respective clubs.

Edison Cavani and Radamel Falcao are the two names currently topping the goal scorers chart. The PSG front man has scored 18 times this season and Falcao’s 14 goals has contributed 32% of Monaco’s goals this season.

One can only imagine where both clubs would be now if they didn’t have both players in their ranks. That being said, how will these players fare tonight?

Will Cavani be able to make it an average of one goal per game this season?

The Race for 2nd, 3rd and 4th

PSG has dominated the Ligue 1 from the start of this season. Their attack line consisting of Cavani, Mbappe and Neymar have scored 36 goals between them, making up 66% of all the league goals PSG has scored this season.

But there’s a chasing pack that are not too far away – that’s if being 9 points off the top of the table is not too far away.

Monaco (38 points), Lyon (38 points) and Marseille (35 points) are the other challengers to PSG title challenge. While Marseile has registered an average of 16.4 shots per game, Lyon has a front trio that have combined to score 33 goals among themselves this season.

Which of these teams will win today and climb higher up the Ligue 1 table to catch up with PSG?

The Relegation Battle

Asides Metz (8 points) who seem to be condemned to relegation already, it’s a tight race between Amiens (13th) through to Angers (19th). Only 6 points separate all the teams in this category – Amiens, Troyes, Bordeaux, Saint-Etienne, Toulouse, Lille and Anger – and they will be looking to quickly register those wins in order to save themselves from slipping to Ligue 2.

Which of these clubs will get the much needed three points in this round of games to climb further away from the relegation zone?
