The on-going FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia has turned out to be one of the strangest editions of the mundial in recent times. Since the 14th of June, every single day has witnessed one drama or the other.

From super goals (Xhaka against Serbia, Coutinho against Switzerland) to VAR drama (Senegal against Colombia, Nigeria against Argentina) and the defending champions getting knocked out of the competition, Russia 2018 has already become an unforgettable tournament.

With the first round of games now gone, the boys now separated from the men, the World Cup really starts now – with every game a final. Of the 32 teams that made it to the competition, only 16 now remain in the race for the trophy.

As we look ahead to the round of 16 clashes, here some questions we’re asking ahead of the games:

  1. Can Portugal score against Uruguay?

When Luis Suarez and co. made it out of Group as the group winners, they defeated all three teams in the group (only Croatia and Belgium were able to do this), and did not concede a goal in all those three games.

The Portuguese, on the other hand, scored five goals, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring four of those goals.

Do you think Portugal will be the first country to score against Uruguay in this tournament?

  1. Argentina vs. France: Who will win?

This is one of the most anticipated games of the round no thanks to how both sides have yet to play at their full potential since the tournament began.

One issue both sides have is individual play over team-work. The Argentines will have to tighten their defense while the French will have to be more clinical upfront.

Will it be the end of the road for Lionel Messi or will France be kicked out of the tournament?

  1. Which game(s) will require extra-time?

Just in case you’re wondering, here’s a list of the round of 16 fixtures:

  • Urguay vs. Portugal
  • Spain vs. Russia
  • France vs. Argentina
  • Croatia vs. Denmark
  • Brazil vs. Mexico
  • Sweden vs. Switzerland
  • Belgium vs. Japan
  • Colombia vs. England

It’s go-big-or-go-home time for all 16 teams. All will be at stake which means these games will be very tightly contested.

With games being too close to call, which of them do you think will require 30 minutes of extra-time (or even penalties) to be settled?

  1. What are your predictions?

If you’re reading this, chances are that you want to make some extra cash from the action in Russia.

So, as the second round kicks off this weekend, which teams will you be backing on your bet-slip? Which betting markets will be watching out for to make money from? Will you be betting on all eight games or just one specific game?

Leave us a comment and share your thoughts with us. We’d love to hear from you.
