Just last week, we discuss the beginning of the World MatchPlay 2019.
The competition has commenced in full swing, and since it is a short one, we are almost at the semi-finals.
Already, we have our participants for the quarterfinals. Gradually, the best players are being distinguished.
We should be expecting players like Glen Durrant, James Wade, Michael Smith, Mervyn King, Rob Cross, Stephen Bunting, Peter Wright, and Daryl Gurney in the quarterfinal games which will be going down today and tomorrow.
The Semi-final thrill is in the air. Which of these players should we expect in the semi-finals? Who will be pulled out in the quarterfinals?
While we are anticipating the outcome of quart-finals, let’s examine some of the games that will be played….
Glen Durrant vs. James Wade
Gurrant has been on a roll since the beginning of the tournament.
Looking at the tournament statistics, his performance at the first two matches was brilliant. He wowed us with a tournament average of 99.5.
Right from the opening games of this season, he has shown that he means business.
Wade has been able to scale through to the quarterfinals which is commendable, especially since this is the first time, he will be sitting at the table of eight since 2015.
This is however not his first quarterfinal match. Wade has played in 10 quarterfinals and he won eight of those games.
Both men seem capable of winning this game.

Michael Smith vs. Mervyn King
It has been an interesting year for Smith, not only in this tournament.
This year alone, he progressed to the 2019 World Championship finals and at the UK Open, he made it to the top four.
Hopefully, in this game, he will beat his record this year and win the tournament.
But before we get carried away, he still has to face Mervyn King who defeated the defending World Matchplay Champion in his last game.
This is not the first time King will be going against Smith and he has the higher record; 7-6.
It is obvious both players are good. So, who will win?

Rob Cross vs. Stephen Bunting
At the moment, Rob Cross seems to be the new World MatchPlay favourite. He has done a good job impressing us in his first two games.
The first finished with a 100.65 percentage and the second, 98.47.
Stephen has wowed us too, even though his entrance to the quarterfinals this season was through a narrow win.
Nevertheless, both players have done well, and we should be expecting nothing but the best from them.
Indeed, we have got qualified players ready to blow our minds in the quarterfinals, and we can only hope the best man wins.
